Synopsis

Written and directed by (Hassan Yektapanah) DJOMEH is the story of a 20 year-old refugee called Djomeh (Jalil Nazari), who lives in a remote village in the Iranian mountains and works on a dairy farm. Every day he accompanies the farm's owner, Agha Mohmoud (Mahmoud Behraznia) on his drive into town and they get to know each other quite well to the extent that Djomeh reveals he had a relationship with an older widow in his native homeland and now finds he is becoming increasingly attracted to Setareh (Mahbobeh Khalili), the daughter of a local shopkeeper.

Unfortunately the villagers in this close-knit local community do not like outsiders and shun Djomeh but he perseveres and starts courting Setareh. Djomeh asks his boss, Agha, to approach Setareh's family on his behalf with a view to marrying her but the repercussions of this complicate his simple life.
