Synopsis

Warner Bros Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan's DARK KNIGHT trilogy.

Eight years ago Batman disappeared into the night, turning from hero to fugitive. The Dark Knight took responsibility for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, sacrificing everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. The lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City plummeted because of the anti-crime Dent Act.

When a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda and a dangerous, ruthless masked terrorist, Bane, descend on Gotham, the city's stability is threatened. Bruce Wayne emerges from his self-imposed exile, but even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (THE FIGHTER) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The movie also stars Anne Hathaway (GET SMART), as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy (INCEPTION), as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (CONTAGION), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake.

Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (INCEPTION) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (RED) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

Based upon characters created by Bob Kane and published by DC Comics, the screenplay was written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, with the story by Christopher Nolan & David S Goyer.
