Synopsis

Selma (Bjork) is a Czech immigrant and single mother working in a factory in rural America. Her salvation is her passion for music especially the all-singing, all-dancing routines found in classic Hollywood musicals. She is also taking part in an amateur drama production of the 'Sound of Music' with her friend Kathy (Catherine Deneuve). But Selma harbours a sad secret, she is losing her sight and her 10 year old son Gene (Vladica Kostic) stands to suffer the same fate if she can't put enough money away to secure an operation for him. When a desperate neighbour Bill (David Morse) falsely accuses Selma of stealing his savings the drama of her life escalates to a magnificent and tragic finale. Bjork has also released an album SELMA'S SONGS - the OST to the movie.
