Synopsis

"Bone saw the killer. Cutter knew the motive."

Re-released in celebration of its 30th anniversary, cult thriller CUTTER'S stars Jeff Bridges, John Heard and Lisa Eichhorn.

Set in Santa Barbara, California, home to a wealthy and powerful community the film’s main characters, however, are among the town's have-nots: Richard Bone (Jeff Bridges), is a beach-boy gigolo beginning to go to seed, while his best friend Alex Cutter (John Heard), is a broken Vietnam veteran - maimed in body and spirit. Mo (Lisa Eichorn) is Cutter's alcoholic wife.

When Cutter witnesses one of the community's most prominent citizens cover up a murder, Bone insists that the police would never believe their word over that of a man of such wealth and prestige. So instead Cutter sees this as an opportunity to blackmail the killer, as a way of striking back at a system he thinks sent him off to an unjust war that has ruined his life.

After immigrating to the United States in 1969, Czech-born director Ivan Passer finally broke through to American audiences with his fourth film, CUTTER’S WAY, a unique blend of mystery and social commentary.
