Jane Ryder (Darryl Hannah) is employed as an assistant to a distinguished author, Sir Paul (Tom Conti). Attractive and efficient at her job, it seems Sir Paul landed the ideal person to help him cope after a horrific accident that left him blind.

Gradually as Jane earns Sir Paul's trust, it begins to become apparent that not everything is as it appears. Jane deliberately changes Sit Paul's surroundings just enough to increase his dependence on her without causing suspicion and his housekeeper is kept busy elsewhere.

As Jane plays increasingly sadistic games on Sir Paul, he realises his life is in danger. Is it too late for Sir Paul to save himself?

Based on the novel by Gilbert Adair, written by Gilbert Adair and directed by Raoul Ruiz.
