Synopsis

"The gods visit the sins of the fathers upon the children." - Euripides

From the producers of CITY OF GOD comes director Paulo Morelli's highly-anticipated follow-up CITY OF MEN - a unforgettable story of friendship and survival in a city where the greatest challenge is growing up.

Having grown up together in the sun-soaked favelas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, best friends Laranjinha (Darlan Cunha) and Acerola (Douglas Silva) are about to turn 18 and face the first difficulties of their adult lives. With the fun and freedom of his youth a thing of the past, Acerola struggles to look after his young son and wife Cristiane (Camila Monteiro).

Meanwhile Laranjinha has only one dream - to find his estranged father, who he has never met. However, as war breaks out between the favelas' rival gangs, the two boys make a shocking discovery about their missing fathers' pasts which threatens to shatter their friendship.

Alive with the rhythmic music and heated flavor of Rio, CITY OF MEN was filmed entirely on location in seven different favelas of Rio. The behind-the-scenes team includes cinematographer Adriano Goldman (THE YEAR MY PARENTS LEFT ON VACATION) whose handheld camera work sets the alternating kinetic and emotional moods for the story; art director Rafael Ronconi, who made his debut as an assistant set designer on CITY OF GOD and here brings the favelas' hidden interiors to life; award-winning editor Daniel Rezende who also edited CITY OF GOD and CITY OF GOD composer Antonio Pinto who merges urban sounds into a driving Brazilian soundtrack.
