Synopsis
Directed by Paul Weitz (upcoming LITTLE FOCKERS), written by Paul Weitz and Brian Helgeland, CIRQUE DU FREAK: THE VAMPIRE'S ASSISTANT is based on a series of books written by British author Darren Shan.
A fantasy adventure unfolds when a teenager, Darren (Chris Massoglia), unknowingly breaks a 200 year-old truce between two warring factions of vampires.
Unexpectedly sucked into a nightmarish world after being attacked a vampire called Larten Crepsley (John C Reilly), Darren leaves behind his cosy but boring humdrum teenage life. Darren is suddenly confronted instead by a misconstrued sideshow of freaks and grotesque creatures of the night in his new world.
Turned into a bloodthirsty being, he joins the touring Cirque du Freak show and discovers his transformation has given him newfound powers which he must master if he is to survive.
Caught between the vampires and their deadlier enemy, Darren becomes a pawn trying to survive in this dark world in a struggle to keep the war from igniting and devouring what reamins of humanity.
Shot mainly on location in and around New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
