Synopsis
Directed by Peter Richardson (STELLA STREET, THE COMIC STRIP PRESENTS...) and written by Richardson with Pete Richens, CHURCHILL, THE HOLLYWOOD YEARS is a wildly irreverent retelling of one of the greatest periods in Britain's history... as seen through the eyes of Hollywood.
Written and directed by one of the godfathers of alternative British comedy, Peter Richardson; Churchill: The Hollywood Years hilariously exposes a long-hidden historical secret. Far from being a staid English politician, Winston Churchill (Christian Slater, Broken Arrow, True Romance) was actually an American machine-gunning action hero reminiscent of Bruce Willis, whose dynamic actions helped to win WW2 for the allies!
Flashbacks disclose the funniest political cover-up of the last century - most explosively revealing that the famous image of the portly Englishman with a fat cigar, believed for decades by the public to be Winston Churchill, was in fact comedian and jobbing actor Roy Bubbles.
In another bizarre twist, it's revealed that Churchill fell in love with the young English princess, Elizabeth (Neve Campbell, The Company, Scream). However, he was not the only historical figure to fall for the princess - visiting dictator (and fetishist) Adolf Hitler (Antony Sher, Mrs Brown, Shakespeare in Love) demands to be married to the young future monarch, despite the presence of his feisty lover Eva Braun (Miranda Richardson, The Hours, Blackadder)...
Slater and Campbell will be supported by a cast of the best of British comedians, veteran and new, including Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, Leslie Phillips (LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER), Mackenzie Crook (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN), James Dreyfus (HELL'S KITCHEN), Steve Pemberton (THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN) and Harry Enfield as King George. Adolf Hitler is played by Sir Anthony Sher and Eva Braun by Miranda Richardson.
