Now a nurse working for Dr Lambert (Arthur Cox) who treats sick children, her path is about to cross Ebenezer's again when he buys up the debts of Belle's employer Dr Lambert and promptly gets him thrown into the debtors jail.Belle writes a letter to Ebenezer pleading with him to rethink his actions but he is out of the office when she delivers it.
When Ebenezer returns to his home that night after telling Bob Cratchit that he can at last go home to his family, the scene is set when the ghosts of his late business partner Jacob Marley (Nicolas Cage) and the ghosts of Christmas past (Jane Horrocks) and Christmas present (Michael Gambon) invade his dreams and show him the errors of his ways with the help of two friendly mice.
