Synopsis

Set in Beirut, Lebanon, five women regularly meet up in a beauty salon which is a colourful and sensual microcosm of the city where several generations come into contact, talk and share confidences.

Layale (Nadine Labaki) loves Rabih but he is married. Nisrine (Yasmine Elmasri) is Muslim and her forthcoming marriage might be put in jeopardy as she is no longer a virgin. Rima (Joanna Moukarzel) is tormented by the fact that she is attracted to women particularly one client with long hair. Jamale (Gisele Aouad) is refusing to grow old, while Rose (Sihame Haddad) has sacrificed her life to look after her elderly sister.

It's in the salon between haircuts and sugar waxing with caramel that their intimate and liberated conversations come to the fore revolving around men, sex and motherhood.
