Synopsis

Academy Award winner Javier Bardem plays a man on the wrong side of the law who struggles to provide for his children on the dangerous streets of Barcelona. The latest film from Academy Award nominee Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (BABEL, 21 GRAMS, AMORES PERROS), BIUTIFUL won the award for Best Actor at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

Starring Javier Bardem (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN), the film includes Maricel alvarez, an Argentinean actress in her feature film debut, and Spanish actors Eduard Fernandez and Ruben Ochandiano. As in all Inarritu's films, BIUTIFUL includes an array of new faces and non-actors from around the world. The script was written by Alejandro G Inarritu in collaboration with Armando Bo and Nicolas Giacobone, based on an original story by Inarritu.

At the heart of BIUTIFUL, there is the intimate and powerful story of Uxbal, a lonely man who struggles to survive between the tough life within a marginal neighborhood, and the battle to protect the future of his young children who must fend for themselves.

Filming took place in Spain during the months of October 2008 to March 2009 at locations in Barcelona, Santa Coloma, Badalona, Sabadell and Navarra.
