Synopsis

From the writer of CHINATOWN and TEQUILA SUNRISE, Robert Towne both writes and directs ASK THE DUST, a period drama set in 1930s Depression-era Los Angeles, from a novel written in 1939 by John Fante.

In Towne's adaptation, Arturo Bandini (Colin Farrell), an Italian immigrants' son, has come to Los Angeles in search of his dream of becoming a famous novelist and marrying a beautiful blonde. Likewise Camilla Lopez (Salma Hayek) has ambitions of marrying a WASP and losing her last name. Thus at a time when Anglo-Chicano relations are hanging by thread, Arturo and Camilla collide fighting the city and themselves in their search to realize their dreams.
