Synopsis
Fact
In July 1947, the US military issued a press release announcing that an Unidentified Flying Object had crash landed on a remote estate outside Roswell, New Mexico. Four hours later, they retracted the story, stating that in fact the debris was that of a weather balloon. The retraction sparked one of the biggest conspiracy theories of the 20th Century. Rumours were rife of an autopsy carried out on alien life forms carried away from the scene. Eyewitnesses came forward and swore they had seen strange life forms being carried away on stretchers by US servicemen, but their stories remained just that, stories. Without hard evidence the rumours fermented, becoming embedded in American folklore and fuelling an industry which Roswell capitalises on to this day. The truth has never been determined, that is until 1995, which is where this story begins.
Story
Ray Santilli (Declan Donnelly) and Gary Shoefield (Anthony McPartlin) are best friends and have been since childhood. Ray runs a stall at the local market trading illegal copies of films which he records at his Nan's house, but he dreams of making the big time: his own store, a chain of stores and the ultimate...mail order! By contrast, Gary works as a legal clerk for a biscuit firm. His ambition is to follow a career in law, marry and settle in suburbia.
All Gary's hopes and dreams are focused on raising enough money to get him through law school and so he resolves to sell his pride and joy, an immaculately restored 1972 Ford Capri. Ray, however, has other plans. Fed up with waiting for lady luck to smile upon him, Ray has organised a buying trip to Cleveland, Ohio, where Elvis gave a concert in 1954, with the intention of buying Elvis memorabilia. When his current stock is impounded he impulsively decides to sell Gary's Capri to fund the trip, happy in the knowledge that Gary will be thrilled to be his business partner. Gary is furious, but with little chance of recovering the money he resigns to accompany Ray on his latest escapade; if only to protect his begrudging investment.
Thus the wheel of fate is set in motion, for it is whilst in Cleveland that Ray stumbles across explosive footage that will change the way mankind perceives his position in the universe forever.
Realising this is their one chance at the big time they borrow money from an eccentric drug baron and crop circle fanatic, Voros (Götz Otto), and return to the UK with the footage. A media frenzy ensues which catapults Ray and Gary into the limelight, but the two of them have an even bigger secret and if the truth got out their lives could be in serious danger. ALIEN AUTOPSY is the story of two unlikely lads from London who became icons of UFOlogy.
