Part of the [adult swim] animation brand ROBOT CHICKEN SEASON 1 continues the hilarity and pandemonium of ROBOT CHICKEN STAR WARS.
Created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich ROBOT CHICKEN: SEASON 1 is an affectionate assault on pop culture. Utilising stop-motion animation ROBOT CHICKEN SEASON 1 is 20 fifteen minute episodes of fastly-paced sketches.
ROBOT CHICKEN: SEASON 1 features an impressive list of vocal talent from creator Seth Green and a slew of regular guest stars that include Seth McFarlane (Family Guy), Mark Hamill, Scarlett Johanssen, Ashton Kutcher and even David 'The Hoff' Hasselhoff.
Highlights of Season 1 include Alien and Predator taking a blind date, Voltron in a break dancing showdown and the World's Most One Sided Fist Fights featuring a boxer pummelling a wheelchair user. Such irreverent humour is perhaps no better showcased than in Zombie Idol a talent contest between such long dead music luminaries as John Lennon and Bob Marley, only for the interruption of Dawn of the Dead's Ving Rhames wreaking havok on the unwitting un-dead.
To think that all of this mayhem started over a love of toys. Having worked throughout the comic book industry Matthew Senreich had risen through the ranks at comic bible Wizard to become editor of their Toy Fare publication. While attending the annual Comic Con in San Diego he ran into actor Seth Green (Austin Powers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and a friendship blossomed over their mutual love of action figures. Thus an idea was struck to take a loving swipe at everything from Star Wars to George Bush by animating their beloved toys. But what has a Robot Chicken got to do with anything? Seth Green explains, "Um, "Robot Chicken" was a dish from the Chinese restaurant where we ordered take-out."
Name settled and shows in production, ROBOT CHICKEN has gone on to become [adult swim]'s highest rated original show in the USA and garner a prestigious Emmy Award in 2007. Broadcast in the United Kingdom on Bravo as part of their own [adult swim] strand.
