At the onset of her final year at high school, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) continues to battle the demonic forces that prevail in Sunnydale. Not only does she courageously deal with vampires, werewolves and sinister forces but also tackles the normal high school dilemmas. Faced with expulsion by Principal Snyder (Armin Shimerman), a difficult adolescent relationship with her mother (Kristine Sutherland) and a lost love with Angel (David Boreanez.), Buffy's last year at school appears doomed.
Even her friends seem less than welcoming with Xander (Nicholas Brendon) and Willow (Alyson Hannigan) involved in their own romantic twosomes. Poor Willow suffers romantic turmoil as she dabbles in witchcraft and seductive moves to convince Oz (Seth green) that he is the one for her, although in secret she fears that Oz in werewolf mode might be responsible for a violent murder.
As Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) excitedly prepares for her eighteenth birthday she is unaware that preparations are being made for a life-threatening rite of passage that will drain her of her slayer powers. Faced with a vampire foe in her defenceless state Buffy must now defeat him in order to pass the test and save her own life. Whilst contending with such a terrifying ritual, Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) and the rest of the crew must engage in a furious battle with an-all female apocalypse cult that intends to reopen the Hellmouth and bring about the end of the world.
Whilst Buffy, Willow (Alyson Hannigan), Xander (Nicholas Brendon), Oz (Seth Green) and Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) get ready for their much anticipated graduation day, the Mayor (Harry Groener) makes preparations for his Ascension and transformation into pure demon at the climax of his commencement address to the class of 1999. Instead of being able to enjoy her graduation day Buffy must now save the world from fiendish forces. With Angel (David Boreanaz) near death Buffy defies orders from The Watchers Council and embarks on a perilous campaign to rescue everyone from the evil Mayor.
